EVENT - SCON 2016

I don't normally do event reviews per sey but I wanted to share this event with all of you.

This weekend my Model United Nations club held a conference at the University of Washington. It was my first ever Model UN conference and it was so much fun. The conference centered around the 2016 Olympics in Rio and basically insanity ensued. People died, a new deity was named and basically the entire International Olympic Committee fell to ruins. Yet the games went on.

My main role was to act as the Minister of Health of Brazil. I spent most of the two day conference trying to clean up a polluted beach and I was only successful with the help of Captain Planet and his Planeteers.

My last act as the Minister of Health of Brazil was to release a sample of every virus Brazil had into the population. I, our new deity the Brazilian Soccer Legend Pele along with the rest of the Brazilian Cabinet are safe inside our underwater fortress named Atlantis.

I was originally very nervous about the conference. I felt like I didn't know nearly enough about my role and that I would be completely unprepared compared to the other delegates but thankfully it didn't matter. I quickly got the hang of the conference and had one of the best weekends of the school year. Thank you UW MUN for providing such a fun event.
Score: 10/10 would do again.

Movie: Camp Rock 2- The Final Jam

Info

Name: Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam

Rating:G

Time: 94 Minutes

Studios:Disney

Quick overview: Mitchie and the gang are back for another year at Camp Rock. Trouble starts when a new rival camp: Camp Star opens its doors across the lake threatening to take away all of Camp Rock's staff and campers causing the camp to shut down. In a last chance attempt to save their beloved camp the camp rocker's work together to out shine Camp Star in the final jam.

Who's in it?: Demi Lovato, Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas, Kevin Jonas, Chole Bridges, Allison Stoner, Megan Jette Martin

My Opinion: Have I mentioned on here before that I have a love of these Cheesy DCOMs and this one didn't disappoint in terms of cheese and heartwarmingness that makes me feel like a giddy 12 year old again. As a shocker I actually hadn't seen this movie till now with my interest/inability to actually watch the Disney Channel on TV. The movie lived up to my expectations completely and made my love affair with Nick Jonas grow anymore. Yet I can't help but be happy that Disney didn't end up promoting Chole Bridges that way I heard rumors of that they were threatening to (she kinda reminds me of Angelina Jolie in a bad way.)

I think the whole story was really sweet and the dance/music was spot of as per usual with Disney musicals. My favorite songs were: "It's on", "Introducing me", "Wouldn't Change a think", and "Walking in my shoes."

Movie: The Help

Info

Name: The Help

Rating:PG-13

Time: 146 Minutes

Studios:DreamWorks Pictures, Reliance Entertainment, Participant Media, Imagenation, 1492 Pictures, Touchstone Pictures

Quick overview: The film follows Skeeter a new college graduate trying to become a writer in 1960s Jacksonville, Mississippi. When told by her dream boss that she needs to write about what disturbs her most she decides to write a novel of first account stories from the African American maids that work for Skeeter's family and friends. In doing this she along with these maids embark on a life changing and at the time illegal journey to change the world around them from the inside.

Who's in it?: Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jessica Chastain, Sissy Spacek, Mike Vogel and Allison Janney (just to name a few :p)

My Opinion: I love love love this movie. I wasn't sure how much I'd like it since I wasn't sure about Emma Stone playing a serious character like Skeeter, but she blew me away and I am now in the camp of those who think she is a goddess. I think this movie definitely deserves at least an Oscar nod if not a win for best picture.

The story is a refreshing take on remembrance of the hardships that our African American ancestors (maybe even your grand or great grandparents) had to go through. It is filled with heartwarming lovable characters and those you just love to hate. And since the book is usually better than the movie I can't wait to sink my teeth into the novel written by Kathryn Stockett because I'm sure I will love it even more.

MOVIES: Bandslam (2009)

Info

Name: Bandslam (2009)

Rating:PG

Time: 111 Minutes

Studios: Walden Media Summit Entertainment

Quick overview: The Story is about a high schooler named Will Burton who loves music more than anything. When he moves to a new city he meets a group of misfits who together form a rock band and beat the odds to compete in Bandslam a music competition.

Who's in it?: Lisa Kudrow (Pheobe in Friends), Vanessa Hudgens, Aly Michalka, Gaelan Connell

My Opinion (slight spoiler alert): Overall I was a lot more impressed by the movie than I thought. Orginally it was one of those movies that I was never planning on watching since I'm not much of a Vanessa Hudgens/Aly's acting fan but I saw Lisa Kudrow on the cover so I knew that I had to watch it now (I'm a bit of a Friend's fanatic). I instantly knew I would like this movie from the moment the bit about David Bowie came on (its of Will Bowie is kinda my idol too). And as the movie progressed I liked it more and more. I thought that the whole bit with Will's dad and that part at the end with the stealing of the songs has been done in almost every music competition movie/show. Will's character kinda annoyed me how he let everyone walk all over him and was more of an empty shell that a true character. I was impressed though by Vanessa's acting I thought she made the character of Sa5m convincing (well for her). Aly did as expected and he character reminded me a lot of the little of Hellcats I ended up watching. Overall the movie was pretty good and I wouldn't mind watching it again.
